FESTIVAL IN LADAKH – YURUKABGYAT FESTIVAL

Come June, visitors should take a break from their schedule and plan a Leh Ladakh tour to witness the pious YuruKabgyat Festival in Lamayuru. A two-day long festival that is attended by Buddhists from almost all the corners of the globe, this sacred festival is celebrated to appease the main deity, to drive away all the negative energy or evil forces from the valley, and also to signify peace and prosperity around the valley.

The Chaam Dance or the Mask Dance is the main attraction of this holy festival in Ladakh. Performed by the lamas of the Lamayuru Monastery, the hosting ground of YuruKabgyat Festival, this dance is enjoyed by all the spectators with equal amount of zeal and enthusiasm.

A gala event for the visitors and the locals as well, the Chaam Dance depicts Lord Yama and Lord Padmasambhava. The lamas, through their dance performances portrays how Lord Padmasambhava protects the livestock and human race from the evils and also blesses the entire valley.
