FESTIVAL IN LADAKH – NAGRANG FESTIVAL

The pious Matho Monastery; also called the ‘Many Happiness’, is the host ground of the much celebrated Nagrang Festival. The monastery, being only 26km from Leh, attracts a large number of the visitors while on their Leh Ladakh tour. Visitors who happen to visit this sacred monastery during the first month of Tibetan calendar, can witness the Oracle MathoNagrang Festival.

A two days’ annual festival that place on the 14th and 15th day of first Tibetan month, visitors can enjoy the mask dance and witness the entire valley in their best and flaunty traditional attires. During this festival, two of the oracles of the monastery make public appearance after two months of isolated meditation or seclusion from all worldly desires and belongings.

During the Nagrang Festival, these two oracles runs blindfolded over the ridges of the monastery. They also perform aerobatic feats and showcases their mystical abilities to the public.
