ATTRACTION OF LADAKH: DRAS WAR MEMORIAL
Located on the foothills of the Tooling Hill, this war memorial was built and maintained by the Indian Army. Also known as ‘Vijaypath’, a visit to Dras War Memorial is a must-not-miss while planning a Leh Ladakh tour. Built in the memory of the martyrs of the most infamous Kargil War, it has a sandstone wall engraved with the names of Indian soldiers who attained martyrdom during the warfare.
On a visit to Dras War Memorial, visitors can witness a large collection of arms and ammunitions used in the Kargil Wat. In the Manoj Pandey War Galley; named after Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey who was later awarded ParamVir Chakra for his daring courage, visitors can have a glimpse of how the Indian Army fought and came out victorious in the battle against Pakistani soldiers. Images of soldier’s marching, carrying their daily duties, preparation for the war, and much more are on display in his museum.
