ATTRACTION OF LADAKH: DISKIT MONASTERY

Diskit Monastery or the DeskitGompa is the largest as well as the oldest monasteries in the entire of Nubra Valley. A major religious centre to the Gelugpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism, this monastery in Ladakh was founded by ChangzemTserabZangpo in and around 14th century.

Located on the edge of a desert in the Shyok Valley off the Khalsar-Panamik route, it is a sub-gompa of the Thiksey Monastery, and is also maintained by the same. During a visit to the Diskit Monastery, visitors can enjoy astounding views of the entire Nubra Valley along with witnessing ancient paintings, scriptures, murals, and frescos.
