FESTIVAL IN LADAKH – CHEMDREY MONASTERY FESTIVAL
A native festival of the Chemdrey Monastery in Ladakh, the sacred Chemdrey Monastery Festival is celebrated on the 28th and 29th day of the ninth month of Tibetan calendar. Like most of the other monastery festivals in Ladakh, this auspicious festival also marks the triumph of good over the evils.
Celebrated by the Drukpa sect of Tibetan Buddhists in Ladakh, Chemdrey Monastery Festival runs for two days, and is commenced by the monks after meditating for around a week. On the second of this zestful festival, the monks perform special ceremonial worship in the monastery. Locals, during the festival throngs the monastery and takes active participation in all the pujas and festivity. Mask dance is one of the most important aspects of Chemdrey Monastery Festival in Ladakh.
