    Srinagar to Gurez Valley distance is 123 kilometres. The easiest way to reach Gurez Valley from Srinagar is by road. Gurez Valley distance from Srinagar can be covered in a 6-7 hour drive. While the road journey may seem exhausting, you will be greeted with scenic views along the way which makes the journey worth it. You will be meandering through scenic mountain passes, charming villages and the beautiful Kishanganga River.

    You can travel the Srinagar to Gurez distance by your own vehicle or you can hire a private taxi. You can even opt for a bus service from Srinagar to Bandipora, the nearest town to Gurez.

    If you were travelling by your self-owned vehicle, the route would be Srinagar – Bandipore – Razdan Pass – Kazalwan – Dawar (Gurez).

  • By Helicopter

    The roads that lead to Gurez Valley remain closed due to snow during the peak winter season from November to April hence the only way to reach Gurez is by taking a helicopter service. Till now, the service has been operational only for 6 months during winters. It takes about 35 minutes to reach Gurez from Srinagar. You can board a Helicopter for Gurez from both Srinagar and Bandipore. This service is operated by the Department of Tourism in Kashmir.

    You can book the helicopter ticket to Gurez Valley from either the Airport itself or from the TRC office in Srinagar or the DC office in Bandipora. The per-person helicopter ticket costs Rs. 3000 from Srinagar airport and Rs 2000 from Bandipora.

    MTNL and BSNL offer the widest coverage in this area, while Jio provides robust 4G data speeds in and around Dawar.

    All postpaid phones function until Bandipore. But beyond Razdan Pass, only postpaid BSNL or Jio phones maintain connectivity. Apart from BSNL and Jio, no other networks operate in Gurez Valley.

    If you intend to travel to Chakwali, Jio service will also cease shortly after leaving Dawar.

    It is essential to note that only postpaid connections function in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Meaning, prepaid MTNL, BSNL, or Jio phones become inactive upon entering the region.

  • Electricity in Gurez Valley

    Gurez Valley does not have access to grid-connected electricity from outside of the valley. Instead, there is a huge generator installed in the village itself.

    Gurez Valley gets a power supply only for six hours a day through the government-installed generator. It gets electricity from 5 am to 6 am and then again in the evening for five hours from around 6 pm to 11 pm in the night. However, the government is working on a project to get Gurez Valley connected with grid stations in Bandipora for regular electricity. Soon Gurez should have uninterrupted electricity.

    However, almost all hotels in Gurez Valley have their own generators which they use as per the need.

    The road from Srinagar to Bandipore is mostly in good condition, but it becomes a bit rough as you start going up Razdan Pass. However, it gets better at the top of the pass and stays that way for a few kilometres as you go downhill.
