Nearest Access Point to Khardung La Pass

Leh, being the nearest town to Khardung La Pass, is the best point to embark on a tour to Khardung La Pass. Visitors can hire private jeeps, motorcycles, or mountain bikes to reach the pass. A daily bus from Leh to Nubra Valley also passes through the great Khardung La Pass.

Permission to Visit Khardung La Pass

Al foreign national must get aProtected Area Permit (PAP) to visit the Khardung La Pass in Ladakh. This permit can be collected from the DC Office in Leh after submitting self-attested photocopies of their nationality proof and other such documents.

For the Indian citizens, even though no special permissions are required to visit Khardung La Pass, they must carry their valid ID proofs while visiting the pass and produce them on demand.

Operational Hours of Khardung La Pass

Due to heavy snowfall, the pass remains closed from October to May. Post the winters, it reopens with operational hours being 09:00AM to 01:00PM (to Khardung La Pass), and 01:00PM to 05:00PM (from Khardung La Pass).
