Best Time to Visit Suru Valley

Owing to its high altitude, winter is definitely not a good time to plan a Leh Ladakh tour and visit the Suru Valley. However, with the advent of the summer (from May to October), the ambience across the valley changes and becomes livelier. Compared to most of the tourist destinations in Ladakh, Suru Valley receives a longer summer. Temperature gets back to moderate level with pleasant climatic conditions making summer the ideal time to visit Suru Valley.

Sankoo:

Rangdum:

KartseKhar:

A quaint and rustic locale within the periphery of Suru Valley, KartseKhar can be an ideal destination for the history and religious travellers. Located within this vicinity, is the 7m tall rock-carved stature of Maitryea Buddha, that depicts the presence and influence of Buddhism in the entire of Ladakh. The locale is also jotted with amazing Stupas and other rock-carved statues.

Panikhar:

A sparsely inhabited area in Suru Valley, Panikhar is a treat for the visitors to Ladakh. A popular stoppage on the way to Padum, Panikhar also attracts hikers to Parkachik La Pass and several other treks that originates in the Suru Valley.

Places to Stay in Suru Valley

Though Suru Valley is devoid of well-established hotels and other such sty options, visitors on their Leh Ladakh tour can avail camp or tent stays while visiting the valley. Kargil, being one of the closest places to Suru Valley, also serves as an ideal halting ground to the visitors; Kargil has a few budget-friendly hotels.

How to Reach Suru Valley

By Road:

Visitors planning for a trip to Suru Valley can avail regular bus service from Sankoo, Parachik, Panikhar or Kargil to reach Suru Valley. Though the journey is of around 2-4 hours, it is filled with astounding views of soaring peaks and mountains.

By Train:

Visitors should first board a train to the Jammu Tawi Railway Station, and from there, they can make it to Kargil. From Kargil, they can enjoy bus rides or hire private taxis to reach Suru Valley.

By Air:

Srinagar and Leh serves as the nearest airports to reach Suru Valley. Upon arrival at either of the airport, visitors can travel to Kargil, and continue their road journey to reach.
