Places to Visit in Sonmarg
The meadow of Gold, Sonmarg is a glories valley which lies in the vicinity of beautiful Himalayas. Located at the bank of Nallah Sindh, Jammu and Kashmir, this alpine hill station covers several peaks including Amarnath Peak, Kolahoi Peak, Machoi Peak, and Sirbal Peak. During summertime, you can hire ponies for a trip to Thajiwas Glacier, which is an ideal destination for Camping and Trekking. Surrounded with Fir trees and lush Pine, in here, you will get a spectacular look of snow-covered mountains.
For the peace lover, this sparkling blue lake is a bliss. Vishansar Lake, which means “The Lake of Vishnu”, is a home to several species of fish including Brown Trout Fish. For this reason, it is a perfect place for angling and fishing.
Connecting Srinagar to Leh, Zoji-La pass is known for its breathtaking scenery and wonderful landscape views. Though this stretch, which is full of steep turns and curves, is little risky, nothing can stop the visitors to enjoy this second highest mountain pass. While enjoying the beauty of Sonmarg, one should not forget to visit Walnut Orchid. Here, you can experience the nature and the blossoming of walnut’s flower buds. Also, you can see how they dry the freshly plucked walnuts under the sun.
Gangabal Lake and Trek
Famous with the name Harmukh Ganga, Gangabal Lake is a habitat of rainbow trout fishes. Every year, the Gangabal trekking season begins from July till October while on the other hand, fishing season starts from the month of March up to October.
